Dear Alex, five years from now, I hope you're having a good day. You know I feel corny writing this but I'd like to think you arent as cynical as I am.
You're 27 now. We never expected to make it so far so I hope you're thankful for it. I guess it doesn't matter where you are in the world now as long as it's where you want to be. I hope you're with real, loyal friends. I hope you're doing the things you love to do. I hope you throw yourself into everything with passion and courage. Maybe you're even painting in colour now, stranger things have happened.
I hope you realise now it's okay to feel anything and to express your feelings, even anger. I hope you don't take things out on yourself anymore, I hope you don't hide yourself from the world. I hope you know you're a good person, I hope you've forgiven yourself. I hope you still care about the world and you still have your convictions, but I hope you've accepted you aren't superman and you can't and don't have to fix everything all by yourself.
I hope you aren't afraid of living now. I hope you feel comfortable in your own skin. I hope that your warmth, kindness and humour are infectious. I hope that when you in turn look five years into the future you'll smile.
I hope I don't let you down.
Happy Valentine's day
