I have PTSD from being abused at a mental hospital at 16. I'm not a minor anymore but it still haunts me. I'm still looking for peace of mind from it and some other perspectives. sometimes the memories come back.

Can a psychiatrist force you into a mental hospital? I tend to walk on eggshells around anyone in the mental health care system

The laws differ from state to state, but as a general rule it is very difficult to be committed against your will unless you are considered to pose an imminent danger to others or have committed a crime.

In my experience they cannot force you into a hospital, there are many legal channels they have to go through to make you a ward of the state and then they have to prove you are incompitent to live on your own. That would be a great question for a lawyer who knows your state's regulations, as they vary from state to state.
