Flight anxiety

Okay it's not ntill July but, in July I am going to New York which is like 5 or 6 hours on a plane. The longest flight I was on was less than three hours. I am terrified of planes. The first time I flew I was terrified I was going to get deep vain trombosis which I know is unlikely but often fears can be irrational. I moved my legs all the way to Tunisia though which must have annoyed my dad. I am less worried about a plane accident than this. I got socks which reduce the risk though so thats one aspect of my anxiety pretty much dealt with. I don't mind the over all experience of being up in the air but am absolutely terrified of taking off and landing. The main reason for this is my ears, I suck sweets, chew gum and try to keep swallowing but my mouth often goes dry which makes this hard. Besides I find it makes little difference. My ears feel as thogh theyre blocked and my head feels like its going to explode. It really hurts. I've often ended up in tears. For about two days of my holiday my ears remained blocked untill they eventually popped at a loud concert. I am terrified. I hate the sensation and I really wish I didn't have to fly at all. Does anyone know can the doctor perscribe me something for my anxiety for this? I am on anti-anxiety medication already but at this time would it be normal to ask for something stronger that would make me sleep or something? I'd just love to stop worrying about this.

I flew to England in February for the first time since my anxiety started. Its about nine hours. I was really worried about it. When I would think of it dread would fill up my bones and lie in my stomach and then turn to cement. I decided to have my therapist meet me at the airport on the day. She came out and spoke to me in the waiting area (outside security!) for an hour before my flight. It was really useful! Don't know if you have that option but it worked wonders for me. Especially for the weeks leading up to the flight, I had something to look forward to instead of dread at the airport.

Ask your doc for xanax. you can take 1/2 pill before you get on the plane and it works very well. it will take the edge off :)
